Dr. James K. Scott, Associate Vice Provost |
Dr. James K. Scott is Associate Vice Provost ¡V International Initiatives and Director of the International Center at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Dr. Scott works closely with senior academic officers, faculty members, staff and students from all MU colleges and schools. His mission is to facilitate global scholarship. He especially enjoys helping others build productive international collaborations and partnerships.
Dr. Scott also serves as a Research Associate Professor in MU's Truman School of Public Affairs and the Department of Rural Sociology, He has consulted with federal, state and local government agencies on a wide range of rural and regional policy issues, and is a former member of the Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI) research council. Scott has published numerous articles and research reports on rural and regional development policy, local public involvement, and local public decision making. His current research focuses on the use of information and communication technology (ICT) to facilitate public involvement in local and regional governance.
Dr. Scott has worked in extensively in Europe, including, France, Denmark, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Italy, the UK, and particularly in Ireland. He served on the Steering Committee of the European Rural University, and as Director of the University of Missouri's European Union Center. The Center¡¦s mission is to facilitate scholarship and policy debate regarding Trans-Atlantic relations and other policy issues of common interest. Since its inception in 1998, the EU Center has hosted approximately thirty Trans-Atlantic conferences and workshops, and hosted over 100 visiting scholars and policy makers from EU Member States.
He has organized several successful international study tours for students, faculty, practitioners and policy makers.
